The Alamo
The Alamo is a place of history and significance in the USA. It is located in San Antonio, Texas, and was founded by Spanish settlers in 1718. The mission was to protect the frontier from Native American attacks, and it soon became a stronghold against the Mexican forces.
In 1836, General Santa Anna led an assault on the Alamo which resulted in its surrender. Over 300 Mexican troops were killed, while only 22 Texan defenders died. The event is celebrated annually as “the Battle of the Alamo.”
