A great majority of games considered today as masterpieces have a quality scenario. Beyond fluid and enjoyable gameplay, the storyline often keeps us on the edge of our seats when we play a single-player game.
Who says quality scenario often says quality characters but also suspense and turn of events. There are many games where we witness a betrayal from a loved one. Sometimes brutal, these betrayals have often marked the players. So we decided to look at 8 of the worst betrayals in the history of video games!
The betrayal of Citra – Far Cry 3
You only witnessed this betrayal if you chose to turn your back on your friends to join Citra and stay on the island in Far Cry 3. In short, karma has caught up with you!
If you decide to murder your friends at the end of the game, you will go to bed with Citra, who, once your business is done, will hasten to stab you to take advantage of your warrior genes via your offspring. An unexpected ending that shocked at the time.
The betrayal of Dutch and Micah – Red Dead Redemption 2
Anyone who has played Red Dead Redemption 2 will have been impressed by the game and its narrative quality. Despite its slowness, it offers a unique experience, and we get attached to the characters. Even if we know that the gang will disappear, we are inevitably touched by its slow decomposition caused by a detestable character.
At the end of the game, we learn that Micah Bell has sold the gang to the Pinkerton agency. Not a very surprising betrayal, but the latter manages to convince Dutch that Arthur is the natural mole.
The one we consider as a mentor and a father throughout the game will then turn against us and break Arthur’s heart that he will let die while the latter has devoted his life to him.
The betrayal of Edgar Ross – Red Dead Redemption 2
We stay on the side of Red Dead Redemption by focusing this time on the first opus. As you know, in the game, John tracks down his former companions under the orders of Edgar Ross, who promises to let him live peacefully with his family once the mission is over.
In the end, Ross doesn’t keep his promise and has John executed in a mythical scene.
The death of the Auditore family – Assassin’s Creed
This scene is now cult, but no one expected such an outcome at the time. The assassination of the Auditore family remains a landmark event in the Assassin’s Creed license.
After the arrest of Ezio’s father and brothers, Ezio quickly sends documents to the Gonfaloniere Uberto Alberti to forgive his family.
When he goes to the acquittal, Ezio realizes that Uberto Alberti is one of the traitors, and this last one will murder the Auditore family without any mercy. Ezio will eventually take revenge, and Alberti is the first target of the famous Assassin of Florence.
This scene contributed to the development of the scenario of the Auditore trilogy.
The betrayal of General Shepherd – Call Of Duty
Here is another scene that shocked more than one player. Call Of Duty is a cult franchise, and there was a time when its campaign mode was exciting!
Returning to Shepherd’s betrayal happens at the end of the game after a difficult mission where you escape from Makarov’s forces. Relieved by the arrival of Shepherd’s helicopter, we are quickly disappointed when he shoots Roach and Ghost in cold blood.

Without being allies, the player and Pavel will help each other to survive, and we will even save his life several times.
However, this doesn’t seem enough for him since he will betray and try to kill us after drugging us.
The betrayal of Lance Vance – GTA
It is not surprising to see a succession of betrayals in GTA Vice City. After all, these are commonplace in the mafia world. However, we didn’t expect to see Lance Vance turn his back on Tommy after all they’d been through.
Lance probably regretted his choice when Tommy killed him later in the game.
The betrayal of Big Smoke and Ryder – GTA
Big Smoke and Ryder are like brothers to CJ. In GTA San Andreas, you do many missions with them. That’s why their betrayal shocked players.
The two sidekicks will betray the Groove Street gang and their best friends for money and the mythical Green Saber.
In his last moments, Smoke regrets his choices, but it’s too late; the damage is done.
